It’s not what you think.
For those who think we just lay or sit around meditating and chanting…you will be surprised how physically and mentally challenging the practice is. Weaknesses and imbalances will be discovered in your muscles while becoming aware of the ceaseless noisy chatter in the mind.
For those who have built up fear around getting started…you will be surprised how absolutely peaceful and relaxed you feel afterward. You will witness others with similar struggles and be floored by the power of simple breathing. Yoga is adaptable and modifications are encouraged in order to make it accessible.
Hatha Yoga is a practice of exercises known as Asanas, Postures or Poses. These exercises along with a focus on mindfulness and proper breathing work on all the various system of the body, making the spine and joints supple while toning muscles, glands and internal organs. We start with our outermost layer in order to create change and transformation on a more internal level.
Though the Asanas may seem to be merely physical exercises, you will later realize that it is more than exercising your body. As you progress, you will become more aware of the flow of Prana, the vital energy, and the importance of correct breathing. Yoga means to yoke and create union of our mind, body and spirit (Self/Soul)
