More and more people are suffering from MS, Lupus, arthritis and many other auto-immune diseases. Yoga is beneficial in addressing many if not all of the symptoms of:
- Muscular Tension and rigidity
- Limited Range of Motion
- Muscle Weakness
- Loss of Balance and Coordination
- Mood swings
- heat intolerance
- poor circulation
Many of these diseases are helped through a regular practice of yoga. Yoga is about bringing the body, mind and spirit back into balance and easily adapted for individual needs. Alignment based yoga and the use of props make yoga accessible for virtually everyone.
If you have been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease and concerned about starting a yoga practice you may wish to start with a private lesson. A studio dedicated to yoga will have a variety of classes…from gentle to more vigorous. It’s always best to start out slowly and speak with an experienced instructor about your individual needs.
The anxiety of having an auto-immune disease can cause inefficient breathing exasperating the effects of the disease. Yoga’s ability to help us deal with stress both mentally and physically is a great benefit when dealing with the stress of our own bodies attacking us.
Exercise is very important secondary only to good nutrition.
